چکیده

Lithium niobate (LN) has experienced significant developments during past decades due to its versatile properties, especially large electro-optic (EO) coefficient. For example, bulk LN-based modulators with high speeds and a superior linearity are widely used in typical fiber-optic communication systems. However, ever-increasing demands for signal transmission capacity, the power size of devices pose great challenges, when one counterparts, integrated silicon photonics, dramatic recent decades. Not long ago, high-quality thin-film LN on insulator (LNOI) became commercially available, which paved way photonics opened hot research area devices. LNOI allows refractive index contrast, thus light can be confined within more compact structure. Together other properties LN, such as nonlinear/acousto-optic/pyroelectric effects, various kinds high-performance demonstrated. A comprehensive summary advances is provided. As several development, our review includes some well recently developed thin film In this way, readers may inspired by complete picture evolution technology. We first introduce basic material key processing technologies fabricating After that, functional based different effects summarized. Finally, we give short perspective photonics. hope insight into contribute further development related research.

Recent Advances in the Photorefraction of Doped Lithium Niobate Crystals

The recent advances in the photorefraction of doped lithium niobate crystals are reviewed. Materials have always been the main obstacle for commercial applications of photorefractive holographic storage. Though iron-doped LiNbO3 is the mainstay of holographic data storage efforts, several shortcomings, especially the low response speed, impede it from becoming a commercial recording medium. Thi...

Lightwave Circuits in Lithium Niobate through Hybrid Waveguides with Silicon Photonics

We demonstrate a photonic waveguide technology based on a two-material core, in which light is controllably and repeatedly transferred back and forth between sub-micron thickness crystalline layers of Si and LN bonded to one another, where the former is patterned and the latter is not. In this way, the foundry-based wafer-scale fabrication technology for silicon photonics can be leveraged to fo...

Mid-infrared integrated waveguide modulators based on silicon-on-lithium-niobate photonics

Heterogeneous integration techniques, such as direct bonding, have enabled solutions to many problems facing integrated photonics. In particular, the relatively new field of mid-infrared (mid-IR) integrated photonics has been hindered by the availability of functional, transparent substrates in this wavelength range. The key to achieving compact, high-performance optical modulation and frequenc...
